As many ex stars continue to express their concern over the decision of Iron Mike Tyson to jump to the ring again at the age of 54 against another veteran Roy Jones, George Former a former champion said he is worried that there could be severe injuries. He said that while he acknowledged that the idea is good and beautiful, he said, however, he is scared because Tyson could be seriously hurt because of his age.
When TMZ Sports first broke that story, boxing professionals and fans have continued to express their concern. The former champion who fought against some of the immortals in the ring such as Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier maintained that he was concerned that the two could eventually injure themselves because they have passed the age of what they are seeking to do at the age of 54 and 51 respectively.
Foreman maintained that time has gone when one has to take care of their health and this is the correct time for both Tyson and Jones. He said that while it is good that they name a charity that can receive funds that come from the bout, the two should ensure that they do not hit themselves to avoid injury at the end of the day.
Tyson himself has said that a portion of what he earns from the fight will get to charity said that he was not motivated by the financial benefits that can come out of it.
George said that his main concern is that the two people could end injuring themselves. When he was asked whether the two men should be asked to drop the idea of the fight, Foreman said that he was only concerned about the safety of the fighters. He said that since the two have made up their mind to engage in that fight, it is wrong to advise them against proceeding with the fight. He said that he clearly understands the reasons why the two wanted to fight. He said that such has happened to himself in the past as a former champion he was tempted to do what the two are doing now. He advised however that they approach that fight with caution.
He recalled in his era when he was 55 when he decided to get to the ring. The former champion narrated how his wife tried to stop him. He narrated how he defied all odds to fight. Foreman himself became two times champion when he was aged 45 years.
